Nantgarw Porcelain 9 1/2 inch square dish from the "Prince Regent service". E Morton Nance states in his book "The pottery & porcelain of Swansea & Nantgarw" page 383, "Examples of the work of Billingsley, which is perhaps even less frequently found on Nantgarw than on Swansea porcelain, are possibly the following: The two plates ,no's 61 and 57 of the collection of the National Museum of Wales, both with embossed rococo pattern on the rim, the former (PL, CLXV, 11,A ) with the pink rose and rosebuds in a green and gilt vase, said to be a design for a service for the Prince Regent . These by common consent have been attributed to Billingsley, and it is indeed asserted that they are the only two examples of Nantgarw china in the whole of the museum collection that can be so assigned with certainty". The Late Harold Davies of "West Wales Antiques", probably the most knowledgeable of all people on the subject of Welsh porcelain had examined many pieces of this service and was of the opinion that more than one hand had painted it and that the finer examples were painted by William Billingsley. The late David Phillips states in his review No 1 that these plates were definitely painted by Billingsley and that they were stock taken from Nantgarw at the end of 1813 to Swansea and decorated by him there, he shows an illustration of the plate in his booklet .This dish is in excellent condition Circa 1813 -20 Impressed Nantgarw C W with a figure 7 incised below SOLD £SOLD
