| Swansea set pattern plate no 216 8 1/2 inch . This is one of the rarer Swansea set patterns and was favoured by Sir Leslie Joseph and Jimmy James and as such there is a picture of it on the back of their book "Swansea Porcelain shapes and decoration" and is described and illustrated on page174 as follows. A Japan pattern of stylised flowers in orange with blue leaves edged with gilt and green leaves with a colourful bird and insects, edged with a narrow dark blue border with gilt dots the plate has a good translucency with a hint of duck egg Light rubbing to the gilding and a few nibbles to the foot rim other wise in excellent condition Marked Swansea in red N 216 Circa 1816-26 |
